When tennis met food

by Stephen Lovekin and Donald Bowers

THE LATE 2000s seem to be the era of the celebrity chef, more so than Julia Child and Johnny and Fanny Cradock had ever envisaged. So when there’s a celebrity bash involving food to benefit the Food Bank of New York City, celebrity chefs themselves can encourage the press to visit. Add some of the world’s top tennis players, and the sponsorship of BNP Paribas and Rums of Puerto Rico, and it’s bound to get attention.

Held at W New York on August 27, Andy Roddick, celebrity chef Bethenney Frankel and the Top Chef all-stars headlined the event, the 10th annual Taste of Tennis.

Joining Roddick and Frankel were Tommy Haas, Billie Jean King, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and others, cooking alongside celebrity chef Bethenny Frankel, Carla Hall and Ariane Duarte from Bravo’s Top Chef, and Gotham Bar and Grill’s Alfred Portale. Hannah Storm of ESPN MCed the evening.

The event was produced by AYS Sports Marketing. •

Good Man Down

Jon Krakauer returns with an epic story of sacrifice and betrayal

by Bruce Barcott,

THE STORY of Pat Tillman, the NFL star who walked away from gridiron fortune to fight for his country in Afghanistan, doesn't at first glance seem to be Jon Krakauer material. A nonfiction master who cut his teeth at Outside, Krakauer wrote the classics Into the Wild and Into Thin Air, which chronicled the courage, existential yearning, and occasional foolishness of civilians who tested themselves, respectively, in the Alaskan wilderness and on the world's highest mountain. Football players and war heroes would not seem to be his bag.

But the fallen man at the heart of Where Men Win Glory: The Odyssey of Pat Tillman (Doubleday, $28) quickly emerges as a classic Krakauer character.

A charismatic athlete

possessed of an insatiably curious mind, Tillman spurned the riches of life as an Arizona Cardinals safety in 2002 to pursue old-fashioned notions of honor and sacrifice. He's Into the Wild's Chris McCandless gone to war. Certainly he bears McCandless's infuriating contradictions: Tillman turned down a $9.6 million offer from the St. Louis Rams out of loyalty to the Cardinals, who paid him the league minimum. He believed the Iraq war was unjust but was gung-ho to serve. He discussed Noam Chomsky between combat missions.

The cover-up of Tillman's death by friendly fire is by now one of the better-known acts of shame in the war on terror, but Krakauer lays down a fresh indictment of both the Bush administration and the U.S. Army. In April 2004, a U.S. Ranger caught in a canyon in Afghanistan shot Tillman, who was waving down to his comrades from a cliff above, signaling he had them covered. Tillman's regiment concealed this fact in order to soften the blow to his brother, Kevin, who served in the same platoon; the Bush administration, reeling from bad press, continued the cover-up. Backed by years of research and thousands of pages of documents, Krakauer lays out a devastating case that shows how, in his words, "the 75th Ranger Regiment engaged in an elaborate conspiracy to deliberately mislead the family."

Where Men Win Glory will stand as one of the signal books of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, a grunt's-eye view to complement the macroscopic work of Dexter Filkins, Thomas E. Ricks, and George Packer. If there's a complaint here, it's that the author seems to rein in his own critical voice. Krakauer's willingness to probe the motives of his subjects is what sets his work apart. His insights into a young man's search for meaning gave Into the Wild unparalleled depth. In Under the Banner of Heaven, he explored the world of Mormon extremists and grappled with religion itself. In Tillman he has a man who at times can appear a gallant fool naively pursuing virtue. In the soldier's journals, excerpted in the book, Tillman wrestles with the justness of the Iraq war but doesn't question his duty to carry it out. You expect Krakauer to dig in here, but instead of tackling the essential question—Is a patriot's duty to shut up and fight or question a reckless war?—the author adopts the safer tactic of defending Tillman as a rare man of passion in a corrupt world. "The sad end he met in Afghanistan was more accurately a function of his stubborn idealism—his insistence on trying to do the right thing," writes Krakauer. "In which case it wasn't a tragic flaw that brought Tillman down, but a tragic virtue."

The highly anticipated book's publication was delayed last year when Krakauer said he was unhappy with the manuscript. In the end, he does pull some punches. No matter. The hero treatment Tillman receives can't quite diminish the power of this fiercely reported story of a good man whose honor and sacrifice were abused by those under whom he served.

Inside a Mountain-Bike Shoe

By Alicia Carr,

1. FIT
To pull every watt of power out of your legs, your shoe needs to fit perfectly (slop = wasted energy). Four plastic pieces like this one (at the heel, instep, arch, and little toe) are heat-molded to your foot at the bike shop for a custom fit.

2. DURABILITY
It looks like a piece of your lunch bag, but this is actually a thin strip of fiberglass that maintains the shape of the heel. Unlike pre-formed heel cups, the fiberglass doesn't stretch out—the main reason most shoes need replacement.

3. WEIGHT
The carbon-fiber outsole reduces weight over typical nylon outsoles by up to 25 percent, while stiffening the shoe for greater power. The drawback? The material is also twice the cost: about $152 per pair.

4. COMFORT
Most shoe tongues are just floppy fabric. These Band-Aid-like strips of PVC plastic give the M310's tongue an arch that matches the shape of your foot, adding both comfort and a touch of power-enhancing rigidity.

5. CUSHION
Party mustache? Nope. This piece of high-density foam in the heel conforms to foot contours for a blister-free fit, but springs back to its original shape afterwards, losing only 5 percent of its puff over the life of the shoe.

6. EFFICIENCY
The number-one way you lose power? Heel slip. This tacky, metal-infused polyester, placed at the back of the shoe, is textured like a cat's tongue—smooth in one direction, grippy in the other—and helps lock your foot in place.

7. INSULATION
A wishbone-shaped piece of mesh wraps the pieces of thermomoldable plastic in the heel to keep the foam from being scorched by the 200-degree temperatures it will be subjected to during a custom fitting.

Leadville Trail 100

By Kyle Dickman,

This August, the 16th annual Leadville Trail 100 mountain-bike race kicks off in America's highest city. An expected record of 1,300 competitors will climb more than 14,000 vertical feet at an average elevation of two miles. Lance Armstrong says he's returning, and Levi Leipheimer has committed too, both hoping to dethrone six-time winner Dave Wiens. But for most riders, the main goal is to not end up sucking air from one of eight oxygen bottles spread out along the course.

2,565
More vertical feet Leadville cyclists ride than Everest climbers ascend from Base Camp to the summit

2,500
People who applied for this year's entrance lottery, which fills the race's 1,400 slots, a 25 percent increase over last year

4,000
Dollars twice offered to race director Ken Chlouber for a spot in the race (he declined)

25%
Portion of riders who don't finish

11
Expected cases of post-race high-altitude pulmonary edema

P.2 NASCAR Top 10 Power Rankings

(by Jeffrey Boswell)

6. Kasey Kahne —

Kahne led 67 laps in Charlotte, and held the lead when the cars pitted for the last time. He restarted third behind Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon but lacked the speed to challenge Johnson at the end. Kahne's third-place was his sixth top-five finish of the year, and he is now ninth in the points, 331 out of first.

"As a victim of mechanical issues in a previous race," Kahne said, "I can definitely relate to what Mark Martin and Juan Montoya are going through. That same accident on the street would have simply resulted in an exchange of insurance numbers. On a NASCAR track, it resulted in the downfall of Jimmie Johnson's two closest pursuers."

"I feel especially bad for Martin. It seems second place is his destiny. Therefore, his demise in Charlotte gives this track the nickname of 'Lowe's Martyr Speedway.'"

7. Kurt Busch —

Busch finished 10th in Charlotte, a respectable finish but one that didn't get him any nearer to points leader Jimmie Johnson. Busch moved up one spot in the points to fifth, and trails Johnson by 177.

"Look, we may trail Johnson by an insurmountable amount," Busch said, "but we'll keep plugging away until mathematical elimination is official. However, it seems that it really doesn't matter who 'does the math,' the consensus solution to the equation is a Jimmie Johnson championship."

8. Denny Hamlin —

After leading 54 laps early, Hamlin's No. 11 Fed Ex Toyota dropped a valve just past the midway point in the Banking 500 in Charlotte. With his engine crippled, Hamlin parked his car, and his eventual 40th-place finish shattered any hopes of the Sprint Cup. He now trails Jimmie Johnson by 372 points.

"We fumbled once again," Hamlin said. "My engine dropped a valve in Charlotte, whereas last week in California, I dropped the 'ball.'"

9. Greg Biffle —

Biffle survived a late spin through the grass in Charlotte to post a 16th, a result that maintained his position of seventh in the Sprint Cup point standings. He trails Jimmie Johnson by 268.

"Sure, it looks like Jimmie Johnson has the Cup wrapped up," Biffle said, "but frankly, I'm tired of answering questions concerning Johnson's dominance. Like 'Who's your daddy?' Ironically, that's similar to the question I found myself asking after a controversial race a few weeks ago: 'You're whose daddy?'"

10. Ryan Newman —

Newman finished 11th in the Banking 500, just missing his 15th top-10 of the year. He moved up two spots in the point standings to eighth, 288 behind Johnson.

"As you probably noticed," Newman said, "I was driving the No. 39 Chevrolet with the special Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen paint scheme promoting the DVD release of the movie. Like the Transformers, Jimmie Johnson operates with robotic precision. And the 'Fallen?' Well, that would be the other 11 drivers in the Chase."

P.1 NASCAR Top 10 Power Rankings

(by Jeffrey Boswell)

1. Jimmie Johnson —

Johnson won his second straight race, and sixth this year, with a commanding performance in Charlotte. He led for 92 laps, including the final 13, as he pulled away for a two-second victory over Matt Kenseth. Johnson holds a 90-point lead over Mark Martin, and 135 over Jeff Gordon, with his fourth-straight Sprint Cup title nearly in the bag.

"It's all over except for the driving," Johnson said, "and crying. With my fourth Cup title nearly inevitable, I've become the true 'measuring stick' of greatness in this sport. But just to keep it simple, I'd like to be known as the 'ruler.'"

2. Mark Martin —

Martin bumped Juan Montoya on a restart 125 laps into the Banking 500, and both sustained damage that ruined their nights and severely hindered, if not altogether ended, their chances for the Cup. Martin dealt with a hole in the No. 5 Chevrolet's grill and finished 17th, which dropped him from 12 points down to Jimmie Johnson to 90.

"I hope Montoya knows that it wasn't my fault," Martin said. "If he wants a scapegoat, he need look no further than Jeff Gordon. He's the slow poke that's responsible for my 'slow poke.'"

"Juan's a first-timer in the Chase. He'll learn that not everything works in your favor, unless you're Jimmie Johnson. In 10 races, you've got to expect some bad luck. After all, it's a night race in October — there will be some things that go 'bump' in the night."

3. Jeff Gordon —

Gordon posted yet another top-five finish, his third consecutive, but it made very little difference, as Jimmie Johnson's dominance rendered all other results moot. Gordon finished fourth and moved up two places in the points to third, but trails Johnson by 135.

"Hey, why is everyone getting so bent out of shape about my ability to bring the field to green?" Gordon said.

"Anyway, I'd like to apologize to everyone for my slow restart that caused so much havoc. Keep in mind, though, that I'm not apologizing for wrecking you, I'm apologizing for not wrecking Jimmie Johnson. That seems to be the only way to make up ground on Jimmie. But Jimmie, of course, avoided danger. It's amazing. He always seems to be in the right place at the right time. Which just happens to be Victory Circle immediately following the checkered flag."

4. Tony Stewart —

Stewart battled handling issues all night in Charlotte before grinding out a hard-earned 13th-place finish in the Banking 500. He remained fourth in the Sprint Cup point standings, and trails Jimmie Johnson by 155.

"As the winner of May's All-Star race," Stewart said, "we really came to Charlotte with a lot of confidence. But, like others, we left with less confidence, while others left with confi-dents.

"But I still feel like I have a chance. If you don't believe my conviction when I say that, I'll gladly strap myself to a lie detector and prove you right."

5. Juan Montoya —

On an early restart, Montoya was rear-ended by Mark Martin, as the pack backed up when Jeff Gordon brought the field slowly to the green. Montoya's rear quarter panel was damaged, causing major aerodynamic problems, and he limped to a 35th-place finish. Montoya now trails Johnson by 195 in the point standings after entering Charlotte facing only a 58-point deficit.

"I'm not sure what Gordon was trying to accomplish on that restart," says Montoya. "Was he trying to put the rest of us to sleep? Well, it worked. He made my bed. Now I have to sleep in it."

College Football Picks

by Bill Gerber,

So the first BCS standings of 2009 have been released and to no one’s surprise, the Florida Gators—+125 to win this season’s BCS championship at most online sportsbooks—are Kings of the college football hill followed by the Alabama Crimson Tide in the two-spot.

Strangely enough though, Florida dropped to No. 2, trumped by ‘Bama in the Associated Press poll but football fans in “The Swamp” probably don’t care, as their team is tops in the more prestigious poll.

Florida’s first game as the top BCS team is on the road against the Mississippi State Bulldogs and it is a big 22.5-point road fave and with a Total of 48.5.

The Gators will be looking to maintain No. 1 and this Saturday’s game will mark the fifth-straight week when they’ve been favored by double-digits.

The defending BCS champs have been a college football machine rattling off 16 consecutive straight up wins in a row. For sports bettors, when betting against the spread, in their last 14 games in which a betting line has been posted, the Gators sport an 11-2-1 ATS mark – not too shabby at all.

In Florida’s last 11 games when favored by more than 8-points, they have also been impressive, going 8-2-1 against the spread.

After last week’s scare for Florida, this might be a spot where they look to really trounce an opponent.

Talking to online sportsbook SPORTSBETTING.com about this game, they said the gators are currently seeing about 70% of all the action wagered on the matchup.

Alabama vs. Tennessee

The AP’s No.1 team and the BCS’ No. 2 will host the Tennessee Volunteers and are favored by 14.5-points with an Over/Under of 43—‘Bama is listed at +250 to win the national championship this year.

Despite being favored by over two TDs, Alabama hasn’t been nearly as dominant against Tennessee; the Vols are 10-4 SU vs. the Tide but not such a good bet ATS, going 7-6-1 in those same games.

Tennessee has been very solid in its last nine games when listed at more than +8, going 7-1-1 ATS.

In the Volunteers’ last seven games in Alabama, they have gone 5-2 SU and 5-1-1 ATS.

A dark horse in the race for the BCS championship is the Miami Hurricanes.

It’s been a while since The U” has been mentioned as a National contender, but with a current overall record of 5-1 (2-1 in the ACC) and a 10th-place ranking in the BCS, you wouldn’t be crazy to think that Miami has an outside shot in the BCS title game—they are a +2500 longshot to win the national title.

Unlike Florida and Alabama, the ‘Canes are favored by a single-digit this week; they are 5-point home faves for a game against the Clemson Tigers with a 44 Total.

Clemson’s last 13 games against conference rivals have produced 10 Unders and 3 Overs and they have gone 6-2 ATS in their last eight ACC matchups.

Miami has been hot in their last nine home games, going 7-2 SU and in their last 18 home games with a posted Total, have 14 Unders and 4 Overs, including five-straight Unders in a row.

The Tigers have been very effective when ‘dogged by 6-points or less, going 13-3 ATS in their last 16 games with the betting line in that range.

College Football Betting Picks:

This week I’m laying the big points and playing on the Gators. I also might look at playing the underdog Tigers facing Miami.

Have a great week and good luck with your college bets.

Venison - A Great Mealtime Entree

by Arleen M. Kaptur,

Venison - the most common form is the deer, but these recipes can be used for moose and elk as well. A fresh deer should be aged in a cool place for 1-2 weeks. For best flavor, trim off all fat. Tender cuts such as roasts and chops can be broiled or roasted. Less tender cuts should be cooked slowly by braising or cooking in liquid till meat is tender. Also, with Chronic Wasting Disease in some hunting areas, please check with the local DNR when purchasing a hunting permit to see how widespread the problem is, and what precautions to take. If in doubt, please refrain from consuming the meat. Also, if you do decide to eat the venison from an affected area, the best prevention is not to eat any of the glands or organs, such as liver, heart, etc. Hunting should also be safe, and fun, but take into account all health hazards and stick to those safety rules. They were made for one purpose - to make sure your trip is safe and you return home safely. ENJOY! ****************************** Venison Supreme: Marinade: 1/2 cup dry red wine, 1/2 cup red wine vinegar, 2 cups cold water, 3 bay leaves, 1/4 cup crushed fresh parsley, 1 onion, finely chopped, 2 stalks celery, chopped, salt and pepper ** 5 lb. roast of venison 1/2 stick fresh cream butter 1 cup finely chopped onion, and celery 1 carrot, peeled and chopped 1/2 cup ginger snap crumbs 1/2 lb. bacon, diced and fried 2 tbs. flour 1 cup beef stock Prepare marinade: Combine wine, vinegar, water, bay leaves, parsley, onion, celery, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil. Cool mixture and pour over roast. Refrigerate for 2 days, turning meat occasionally. Remove meat from marinade. In casserole prepare bacon, remove bacon bits and reserve. In bacon fat, add butter and over high heat, brown roast on all sides. Remove meat from pan, and add vegetables. Add flour slowly as well as strained marinade (liquid only, no vegetables). Cook until thickened. Add meat, cover, and bake (350) for 2-1/2 hours, or until tender. Cool and then refrigerate overnight. Skim all fat from pan. Slice roast into 1/4" slices. Add ginger snaps, bacon bits and stock to juices in pan. Heat until thickened. Strain liquid until all solids are removed. Spoon sauce over roast slices and heat (300) in oven for 15 mins. Serve with potatoes, salad, and a vegetable. ************************* Venison Breakfast Sausage: (10 lbs.) 1 pint water, 6 tbs. salt, 1 tsp. pepper, 1 tsp. ground ginger, 1 tsp. nutmeg, 2 tbs. powdered dextrose, 1 tbs. sage, 8 lbs. ground venison meat, 2 lbs. beef fat, pinch of garlic powder. Mix all ingredients together. Make into bulk roll or patties and freeze. *************************** Venison Jerky: 3 lbs. venison, cut into pieces 1 tbs. salt 1/2 tsp. liquid smoke or powder 1 tsp. onion powder 1 tsp. garlic powder 1 tsp. black pepper 1/4 cup soy sauce 1/3 cup Worcestershire sauce Remove all fat from meat. Cut into strips about 1/4" thick. Mix all ingredients and pour over meat. Refrigerate overnight. Using a dehydrator, follow directions. If using your kitchen stove, the pilot light heat only, the jerky should dry in 3-4 days. An attic can also be used to dry the meat. Pack the jerky in glass containers and punch a hole or two in the top to prevent mold growth. ************************** Venison Rolls: 4 cutlets of venison salt and pepper 1 tbs. mustard 1 tbs. red currant jelly 4 slices bacon flour butter 1/2 cup red wine Pound each cutlet to paper thinness. Sprinkle each with salt and pepepr and spread a little mustard and jelly on each. Lay a strip of bacon on each cutlet, roll, jelly-roll style and fasten with a pick. Dredge each cutlet in flour and brown in butter. Add red wine, cover tightly, bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer about 40 mins. or until meat is fork tender. If needed, add a little beef broth or water to mixture during cooking time. Serve over noodles. ***************************** European Venison: 2 lbs. venison meat, cut into strips 1/2 lb. dairy fresh butter 2 cups beef stock 2 cups stewed tomatoes, strained to remove all seeds 2 cups finely chopped onions 1/2 tsp. salt 1/8 tsp. freshly ground pepper 2 lbs. sliced mushrooms 2 cups sour cream Dash of hot pepper sauce In pan, brown venison in a little butter. Add onions and remaining butter. Cook 5 mins. Mix together stock, strained stewed tomatoes, salt and pepper. Add to meat. Add mushrooms and a pinch of hot pepper sauce. Simmer 45 mins. Stir in sour cream and adjust seasonings (salt, pepper, and hot sauce) to your taste. Do not let mixture boil. Serve over noodles. ******************************** I hope these recipes give you a suggestion or two for using venison meat. ENJOY! Arleen M. Golf With Tony

by Joe Pena,

Golf With Tony Did I ever tell you about the time I called my cousin Rick to round out a foursome with Tony Kukoc (one of the World Champion Chicago Bulls)?

Rick's a big guy, he's got a great sense of humor and we usually end up having a lot of laughs.

Anyway, my friend Augie invited me to join him and his friend Tony the next day. This was back when I was playing everyday. So,naturally, I said sure. Besides, I thought it was nice of Augie to invite me along.

Even nicer, I thought, when he said I should invite someone else along too.

That's where Rick came in.

I phoned him at the office and here's how the conversation went:

Joe: "Hey, Rick. What's up?"

Rick: "Just takin' care of business." (One of Rick's businesses is in Translation - www.wwttinc.com)

Joe: "How would you like to join me for a round of golf tomorrow? We need a fourth."

Rick: "Aw man, I'd love to. But Karen would kill me if I went out again. I played four out of the last 5 days...It seems like all I've been doing is playing golf lately. I don't think so. No. There's no way I can go. Thanks though."

Joe: "That's too bad. I guess I'll have to keep lookin'"

Rick: "Hey, who you playing with anyway?"

Joe: "Me, Augie, Tony and whoever I get as a fourth?"

Rick: "Tony? Tony who?"

Joe: "Tony Kukoc"

Rick: "Ok. What Time Should I Be There?".

And when he said that. We both just busted out laughing!

So, the next day, Rick shows up in the locker room. And he asks...

"Hey, you think it'd be alright if I brought a camera along?".

Rick loves to hang pictures in his office. And he has a story for every one. But, I suggested - "Why not save it for after the round. You know. After we've all had a chance to get to know one another."

It seemed to make sense and reluctantly, Rick put his camera away.

So, we all met up at the first tee...

Did introductions...

Teed off...

Had a few laughs...

A little conversation here and there...

Good time.

After we finished the round we all shook hands and Augie said they were going to be on their way. Rick asked if Tony would mind a picture, but Augie and Tony were heading right out. No time for a shot.

I don't have to tell you how Rick felt. If he had brought his camera, he'd have been able to snap a shot. Instead, he listened to me...and didn't get the picture.

To say he was disappointed would be putting it mildly.

But being the good guy that he is, he never said an ill word to me for my bad advice.

And now I have some advice for you.

Don't take my advice.

Web 2.0 web design

by Find a California web design company,

There has been a lot of debate about what exactly constitutes a Web 2.0 standard. There has been a misconception among web design enthusiasts that Web 2.0 is a new technology that would be implemented sometime in the future. What many do not know is that the new standard is already very much in use today and is a current technology and not something that is going to emerge in the future. In fact if you have used sites like YouTube or other social book marking sites, you have already seen Web 2.0 Web Design Technology in use. This is not a separate technology but more of a trend that allows for more interactivity between users of the platform. For instance, users can create and upload their own videos on YouTube and others can watch those videos for free. This creates a platform for sharing one another’s videos and also helps people who share a particular interest to come together.

Blogs are another good example of Web 2.0 technology in use. Earlier, web design was a technical process that could be handled by geeks alone. Creating and managing a website needed a lot of technical skills which left a whole bunch of people without the ability to share their content online. Blogs however changed the whole scenario. They enabled people with no technical experience to share their views and opinions on any topic of their choice without the need to spend time and effort in creating their own websites. There are many free services like Blogger.com and WordPress.com that allow users to create blogs for free. Users can then customize their blogs to make them unique and help them reflect their distinct personalities through their blogs. The emergence of blogs has totally revolutionized the way in which users share their content online with other online visitors.

Social sites like Twitter, FaceBook and Orkut and social book marking sites like Digg, StumbleUpon and Squidoo are other famous examples of sites using Web 2.0 web design technologies. The level of interactivity provided by all of these sites is the common feature found among them. A sense of community is developed within these sites that make people want to come back for more. This keeps the sites active as visitors show loyalty to the site and become regulars on the site. Good web design would require the best use of Web 2.0 technologies by integrating these features into the design of the site from the very beginning. As technology progresses, the tastes and expectations of website visitors increase as well. Therefore it is wise to use all the resources that Web 2.0 offers to make web design as attractive and functional as possible.

Fly Fishing Big Rivers

by Cameron Larsen,

At first appearance it can seem daunting, fly fishing big rivers. If you are new to fly fishing or are used to fly fishng spring creeks, the big rivers can appear overwhelming. There is ALL that water to cover, and how could one ever do it? And whee would one start?

By far the best method of covering big rivers is drifting them. If the river is huge, and laws allow one could also use a pwerboat, but unless you are with an experienced guide or know the river well yourself, you are likely to miss many a fine fishing opportunity speeding passed them. Drifting allows you to get a feel for the river, allows you to observe them diligently, learning the niuances of the specific river and the fish that inhabit it. If the water is clear, you can observe them right beneath you, the type of water they concentrate in, how easily spooked they are and their size. You can watch for risng fish, as well, and the water they prefer when actively working the surface. All of this is hard to see in a power boat, and it is hard to cover as much ground on foot. But one can be an even more carfeul observer on foot.

Breaking up the river:

The big rivers need to be broken up, at least mentally in order to successfully fish them. It is better if they are broken up topographically as well. Islands are by far the easiest feature for anglers to recognize. An island provdies a break in the current, and a natural place for gravel bars, tailouts, riffles, and pools. Islands in short turn the big river into two smallers ones, temporarily. Provding bug and fish habitat and if you are drifting, they provide a less prssured fishing spot, in theory. Although if your river is heavily dirfted, islands are apt to recieve a lot of fishing pressure.

Change in current and river depth, also provide natural fishing spots. A river that has been churning slowly will likely hold fish right above a slight drop, as the current begins to speed just slightly, fish are likely to lay in great abundance above a rapid. Likewise if the depth has been deeper than normal say 20-30 feet, and then turns to gravel, or smaller sized rock bed, fish also are liely to gravitate.

Also look for close in seams in the river. A seam is an area where the water is moving slower then the water farther out. Fish love to layin seams, and feed on the nymphs that heve been carried down by the faster moving water. If you can find a seam on an inside cirve in the rier all the better.

Rocks and logs also provide a fish a natural barrier. A place to hide, and a place to feed. Small pools created by large rocks are often an overlooked hiding spot for larger than average fish, that are actively feeding. They are worth a few casts, and the rewards are worth the casts that didn't turn anything up.

Other natural places to cast

Fish in big rivers are used to dealing with predators. Not just anglers, which they have to deal with as well. For that reason they need to feel secure. They love hind in undercuts from the bank and/or islands. Deep water right next to the bank is often best fished from downstream and csating up. This will minimize your chance of spooking them. Anytime I find water three foot or more in depth huggung the bank, I give it a couple of casts.

Also look for fish under tree limbs. This is by far the most frustraiting fishing you will have on the big rivers. Normally the provide ample casting room, and are generous with casting inaccuracies and back casts. But fishing under trees takes some patience, some expertise, and some luck. Often roll casts are called for, often an ability to read the microcurrents is called for, and allow the irver to deliever your fly to feeding fish. Stealth is the name of the game here, but if you make it a habit to practice, in no time, you will be hooking some very large trout.

Rigging up:

Big rivers not only are home to larger fish, they are also home to swift currents, and lots of room for fish to run. Stouter than normal rods are recommended if not required. For trout use at least a 6 weight, you will be glad you did. It will also afford for longer casting. Stouter tippet is also needed, and a reel full of backing can be the difference between landing that fish of a lifetime or breaking it off. Split shots or Xink will be needed if fishing sub-surface, as fish are likely to be hugging the bottom.

One last word is on safety. Big rivers can be very swift, and very difficult to read. They can also have vicious drop offs. Wading staffs, and cleated or at felted wading boots are a must. If in doubt stay on the bank. Plenty of great fishing is usually only a few feet off from the edge.

Coral Sea and its diving spots

by Jakob Jelling,

Coral Sea is one of the most interesting diving areas of Australia. This place contains a wide variety of different diving spots and allows divers to choose among several different types of diving, all of them offering a lot of fun and interesting activities for visitors of all expertise levels.

The Coral Sea has several reefs for divers to explore and which together conform a varied diving area. This area is located at about 15 hours from the coast of mainland Australia. The Coral Sea is often divided as Northern and Southern Coral Sea. The Northern area is near to Port Douglas and Cairns and is often the most known of these two Coral Seas main sections.

One of the most famous Coral Sea's spots is where the Giant Potato Cod is. The Giant Potato cod is at the area known as the Cod Hole and visitors can not only observe it but also be next to it and feed it. The Cod Hole is very interesting not only due to the Giant Potato Cod but also due to the great amount of marine life it contains.

The Ribbon Reefs is a great area which divers who visit the Coral Sea should not miss. This area contains a spot known as the Osprey Reef which is actually one of the regions' spot which offers the most exciting diving activities along with a very beautiful underwater environment.

Those divers who enjoy challenging activities should go to the Northern Coral Sea. The Northern Coral Sea is an area full of challenging diving spots and activities among which, we can name for example diving near to sharks, practicing deep diving or diving in currents among others.

The best months for divers to visit Coral Sea is between September and January since this is the less windy season at the region. Weather at Coral Sea is often very windy and it is not so unusual that boats have to change their itinerary due to it and avoid passing through this area. When this is the case and divers who approach Coral Sea can not reach to that point, they usually are taken to another close by diving area.

Have fun with a sea scooter

by Jakob Jelling,

A sea scooter is a water propeller which facilitates the practices of divers as well as it ads fun to their activities. It makes the practice of this sport easier and allows divers to spend their energies in a better way. These devices usually are small and light, providing comfort not only in their use but also in their transportation.

Sea scooters are used for many different sea related sports and practices besides diving, such as for swimming and snorkeling. Whatever sport you practice you will find it to be an easier and funnier activity by including a sea scooter in your practices. Sea scooters come with a set of batteries which allow you to use them for a certain amount of time and which might vary from 60, 90 or even 150 minutes without having to recharge them.

Most sea scooters can be used in many different water environments, from a swimming pool to the sea. Therefore, they would allow you to use them in many different situations and places, providing a very wide range of uses in such a way that let your imagination fly.

Sea scooters are designed and thought in order to be as practical and useful as possible according to the help which swimmers and divers might need from them. If you let them go or they become obstructed by something, they would instantly stop and float. Besides, if you are on a depth down to about thirty feet, most sea scooters allow you to select and adjust the buoyancy. The speed in which they run is usually 2mph although you might be able to find some of them faster as well as some of them slower.

Most divers find sea scooters easy to use without having problems regarding their functioning. Besides, they are very easy to be carried. Manufacturers usually use light materials for making them, allowing divers to handle them without much effort or difficulty. They are thought according to divers and swimmers needs, and this becomes reflected on the way in which they easily adapt to these sports practices.

The 6 game situations in Tennis

by Mark Luyk,

Hi, As promised I will talk a bit about the six different situations you can be in on a tennis court. Last week I told you it was important first and foremost to develop consistency in each one of them. The six game situations are: 1.Serving................................. This is perhaps the most important game situation at least as far as playing matches is concerned. Why? Because every point starts with a serve. Unfortunately, more often than not it is the stroke least practiced. 2.Returning the serve................. For obvious reasons this is a very important stroke as well. If you can't do anything else, make sure you keep the ball in play with your return. In that way you will give the opponent a chance to make a mistake... 3.Baseline rallying...................... When beginners first are capable of hitting 5, 6, 7 times over the net with me, I tell them: "You see, it's not that hard! You're playing tennis now!" Usually this happens during the first lesson and their faces always lighten up when I tell them. I think this is because the basic idea of tennis (to hit the ball over the net in the opponent's court) is expressed so clearly in this situation. 4.Approaching + playing volleys........... When you get to the net at the right moment (you get a shorter ball and your opponent is [slightly] out of position) and you can play a decent volley it makes the game of tennis much more fun. Play can get more exciting and unexpected when one or both players show up at the net from time to time. 5.Hitting passing shots + lobs..........Most people at first have a tendency to 'panic' when their opponent shows up at the net. (Some people never leave this stage... ;-) Once you realize you can go for the winner, or first play a subtle 'dinky' shot and then blast it by your opponent, or choose to play a lob, this situation can become a fun and challenging one. 6.Lob recovery.........................When your opponent hits a lob you cannot put away with a smash, you can often run after it and keep the ball in play, for example with a lob of your own. You'll see the craziest shots in this situation. People will apply the 'pancake method' and try to flip the ball over their shoulder holding the racket with both hands, or they will go for the 'Sabatweeny' (named after the Argentinean player Gabriela Sabatini who would on occasion hit the ball between her legs with her back to the net), some people will try to smash the ball either keeping their backs to the net or trying to turn while hitting. So the six game-situations are: 1.Serving. 2.Returning the serve. 3.Playing a baseline rally. 4.Approaching and hitting volleys 5.Hitting passing shots and lobs 6.Lob recovery So what are you supposed to do in these situations? Let's talk some more about that in the next weekly tennis tip. That's all for now. Enjoy the game and see if you can recognize these 6 situations. If you want to know more, read about my eBooks on www.game-set-and-match.com

Horse Racing Handicappimg Tips

by Yuri Nikitin,

Horse racing handicapping should include analyzing the human element, especially in claiming races when a horse makes his first start for a new trainer. It's quite common among novices simply glance at a horse's speed indexes and final times when making their selections, but wise handicappers compare the records of the current and previous trainer. The several questions may arise: when is the right time to wager on a horse in a new barn, why does a horse suddenly improve or regress for a new trainer, what rules should we understand about a newly claimed horse?

We must first analyze the record of the former conditioner before we judge whether a trainer can improve his recently claimed horse, for instance, if high-percentage trainer claims a horse from a trainer with a poor winning percentage, we can assume the horse will improve in his new surroundings, and if a low-percentage trainer claims a horse from the track's leading trainer, we can conclude the animal won't improve - more than likely, he will regress.

Quite often, we are able to eliminate from consideration a betting underlay when the horse goes from a high- to a low-percentage barn. Indexes of a high recent speed horse for a leading trainer often has declining figures for a new outfit. This may result in betting overlay when a horse with dismal recent form for a low-percentage trainer hooks up with leading trainer in wins.

On the one hand, a claimed horse returned at or below its last claimed price used to be considered a negative but with higher purses nationally, a claimed horse can earn a sizable pot even if he is returned at the level he was purchased. More trainers are willing to risk possibly losing their newly claimed horse for the same or even a slightly lesser price because they would still earn a profit from the purse winnings.

It's easy to understand why some trainers are willing to run their newly claimed horses at or below their claimed price - they place their horses where they are most likely to win, and even if another trainer claims one of their horses, they will show a return on their investment if the horse wins or hits the board.

Always consider jockey and equipment changes - a horse claimed from a low percentage stable is likely to have a top rider for his new barn, and a leading jockey on a newly claimed horse would be a big improvement over his previous riders who might have a low win percentage.

For a successful analysis of a newly claimed horse, we must know as much about the new trainer as we do the horse. Remember, handicapping the horse and trainer separates the novice from the veteran.

TAXI CABS ARE A GOOD CHOICE

by Leading taxi company Yellow Cab Palo Alto,

Traffic, total cost of ownership, parking, gasoline, and some really bad drivers on the road can make owning and driving a car a real annoyance. It just makes sense to use a taxi for you transportation needs.

To begin, the cars are well maintained, comfortable, economical, and reliable. Up to 7 people can ride in comfort, for the price of one; pooling passengers and taxi-commuting is a wise money saving choice.

Taxicab drivers are certified by the police department. The taxis are safe, clean, and air-conditioned. Many of the cars are clean air vehicles, making a taxi ride an even better “green” choice.
For daily trips around town, a taxi is perfect. Appointments here, shopping there, and meeting friends for dinner and a show later, packages, parking, traffic are no problem if you take a Checker Cab. People find that using a taxi cab for short hops around the city for day can be a very convenient choice.

For those who do not drive at all, look online at www.foraride.com to discover more about senior and disabled rider discounts. You can be assured that the taxicab will wait at short stops, or otherwise, you can schedule a return ride. Many seniors and people with mobility issues have found that using a yellow cab to get from place to place is an accessibility choice, giving them the freedom to come and go as they please.

Taking a Yellow Cab makes perfect sense when you need a ride to the airport. Traffic conditions are impossible to predict. Paying for short or long term parking takes a large of your budget. Next, schlep luggage from the car to the shuttle for a jarring, crowded, surreptitious ride to the terminal. Finally, the frantic grab for your bags along with all the other riders frantically trying to make their planes. When you take a cab, you’ll be picked up at your door and luggage is handled for you. You relax with that last cup of coffee while the driver maneuvers through traffic. By taking a taxi cab to the airport, the frantic commute to the airport is a saner choice. Yellow and Checker cab offers corporate accounts for the busy and frequent business traveler.

Pilates and Stretch for Weight Loss and Pain Relief

by Steven Giles,

A person in pain is a person in need of a cure. Back pain can be one of the worst types of
pain that one can experience. The causes of your back pain might be obvious, but some
people have it happen to them out of what seems like literally nowhere. Perhaps some
of the most typical causes of back pain come from a combination of regular activities
involved in everyday life. Bad eating habits, poor posture, and years of sitting and/or
standing can all play major contributions toward back pain, and pain in general.

Being overweight is also another big reason why people experience pain in or around
their backs. Too much weight can really take a toll on the entire body, and all functions
that exist within. The mind, brain, heart, lungs, and internal organs cannot perform at
their best when there is too much pressure and stress weighing them down. The effects
that excess fat have on your back can be very detrimental. But, there is something that
can help, and it is called Pilates. Pilates is an exercise that involves strengthening the
muscles located within the core. Those muscles consist of the buttock, hip, abdominal,
and lower back muscles. Once strengthened, the back naturally aligns itself, and
everything goes back to normal.

While in the process of performing daily Pilates movements, your metabolism speeds
up as well. The deep breathing techniques that are used by doing Pilates can increase
circulation, and can also help to get rid of the wastes that have been thought to be
related to fatigue. You will notice that your breathing and overall lung function improve
rapidly. Mental focus is much easier to maintain due to increased blood flow. Once the
body learns how to properly and naturally rid itself of toxins and built up pollutants, weight
loss becomes a more frequent occurrence.

We were not meant to suffer. The body was made to stay maintained at a certain level of
health and strength. Of course, aging will slow us down a bit, but it shouldn't slow us
down to the point where we can no longer function. There is no excuse for not taking care
of our bodies. Everyone should look at the relationships that they have with their bodies
as give and take. When you perform a daily Pilates and stretching routine, your body will
reward you with a straighter spine, and a stronger core. The core of the body is where
everything comes together. Loose muscles within the core are not strong enough to hold
everything together, hence, that is why our body's fall out of alignment.

Have you ever notice that some people just mysteriously develop a curvature in their
spine in the middle of their lives? Those folks do exist, and there are more of them than
you think. Bulging and herniated discs can also happen due to a weak core. Pilates
reverses this damage and brings everything back to where it should be, and in less time
that you might imagine. But, you must stay consistent, because nothing happens
overnight. The best part about it is that most workouts are only ten minutes long! Anyone
can do this, all they have to do is try.

When blockbuster movies like Top Gun and The Aviators got released during that period, sunglasses enthusiasts were are only craving for the aviator sunglasses. Every time, the aviator style came back into trend, it penetrated the domain carrying a new characteristic. Many of us don’t know but the aviator style has been around for a much longer period. Very few connoisseurs are aware of this fact that the first pair of aviator sunglass was developed by Ray Ban in 1936.

Those pair of aviator shades was specifically meant for the pilots because they were cosy and highly protective. While flying, the pilots wear these pair of shades because the lenses were highly protective and cover the eye and skin around from the harmful sunrays. In that period, the lenses were impact proof that is why those sunglasses were terrifically durable. If we take today’s aviator sunglasses into regard then nothing has changed drastically. The overall structure of these sunglasses is very much similar to what US army men used to wear. In the following year of their debut, Ray Ban offered the aviator sunglasses to the public and the company received hordes of gratitude in return from the connoisseurs as well as the customers. When the NASA scientist landed on the moon in 1969, they were wearing the pilot aviator shades; you can see those sunglasses at the Smithsonian museum in Washington D.C. Generic Viagra Soft Tabs

by Flo T. Albert,

There are a lot of people having problems with impotence, but they unfortunately cannot take the hard pills likeGeneric Viagra because they have problems swallowing them. So what can we do with these patients if they do not like jellies either, as they do not want to miss their opportunity of receiving the benefits that Generic Viagra pills would produce on their erectile problem?

Thinking in those patients, specialists formulated the now famous Generic Viagra soft tabs, which basically consist in quick dissolving tabs that are intended to be used only for those who have physical problems not allowing them to swallow hard pills as they normally would.

The Generic Viagra soft tabs take effect in about 15-30 minutes after they are taken and they quickly dissolve in a glass of water, just like any drug of the same kind.

Generic Viagra soft tabs can be found in packages of 20 units of 100mg at a price of $89.00, or a box of 30 for $10.00 more or the package for a month (60) for $149.00, and if you want to check out the offers and discounts available you can do it thru online pharmacies.

Just like any other drug of this kind, you are not supposed to share this medication with others, as they may have a health problem that is not effectively treated by this drug or they might be using another drug which combination with Sildenafil citrate (Generic Viagra´s active ingredient) might cause problems with blood pressure that can cause even death.

Generic Viagra soft tabs must be placed at room temperature between -30 degrees C and should always be away from light and moisture to avoid damage, which might also reduce the effects.

To put it briefly, for brand-lovers the original Viagra may be a perfect choice, while on the other side, men who do not have the courage to take a chance, must look into the Sildenafil citrate (another name for Generic Viagra) which is at par with the original version both equal in quality and composition.

As a matter of fact, I still suggest you to try with Generic Viagra, because you will save a lot of money on it while you get the same results as if you were using brand Viagra. Investigate, read, share your opinions with your doctor and get his professional advice before making your decision and get your Generic Viagra soft tabs today!

The Transformation From City High Flyer To On-Line Gambler

by Roger Kirkham,

The Transformation from City High Flyer to On-Line Gambler

Could this possibly be the headline of the future? Will we see more and more redundant city bankers turning to a new and highly profitable means to make a living? Possibly.

After all they are gamblers at heart, admittedly with other peoples money and not theirs, but gamblers just the same. All they have to do is take the bull by the horns, or horse by the tail, and invest some of their last year’s bonus betting on the horses.

Not having ever been in the situation to get a bonus for work done, I do not know the tax implications involved. But I do know that the winnings I make are completely tax free. The money I make is only taxable when it starts to earn interest or income. The answer is to bury it in the garden in a biscuit tin!!

This is not so stupid as it sounds. For example,a very good friend of mine who had invested £50,000 in a small pension fund three years ago, has recently been advised that this is now worth only £28,000. Through no fault of his own he has ‘lost’ £22,000.

If he had buried it in the garden, or put in under the bed, even allowing for inflation, it would be worth more than £40,000!!! NO CONTEST!!

I am not anti bank, I do have accounts with several, but I do not think that they should not be allowed to get away with half of the things that they do.

I, because of my ‘profession’, have to be able to get my hands on large sums of money, quickly. The mobile phone, computer and a bank account are essential to my business. In fact they are, quite probably, the only things that are necessary to a full-time punter, except the ability to pick a winner.

I am certain that an ex-City man (or woman) would understand that. This makes the transformation so much easier.

If they remember to follow the basic rules, as laid down in my booklet, then I am sure that they will be on their way to a new fortune.

Roger Kirkham, who started the Universal Betting Systems website, is in many ways just a very average person like most of us. Roger has spent the last 30 years doing pretty much what he wanted to do, and that is playing golf, going to the races, and to many major sporting events.

History of Betting

by Keryl Byrne,

Earlier gambling on sport events was considered as victimless crime. The history of betting dates back to the early 17th century, when betting was recognized as a legal and victimless crime. Now betting on sports events is a fastest growing form of legalized gambling. Betting thereby went through a renaissance as the great men of the varied professions, sports and ages developed means, exchanges & bookers to develop the need to bet into a professional systematic and widely popular social custom well integrated in to the lifestyle of a million.
The sports betting industry is big business in Australia which has grown substantially in the last twenty years. With the widespread introduction and legalization of sports betting, today betting industry is recognized as a highly professional and comprehensive event. It is available to the wider mass via the greatest communication revolution of the 20th century through internet.
Online sports betting via internet can cover a lot of aspects of betting or perhaps beyond them as well. Online betting website starts with a tutorial to the perspective punter so that a novice can be pro with the aid of a plethora of betting tips, betting picks, betting statistics, betting advices.
A good betting guide also advise us about spread betting or inform us about the commission charged by the betting exchange or answer FAQs such as, ‘’How do punters lay or back using betting exchanges’’? Or ‘’what is an AUSTRALIAN HANDICAP’’...or show us examples of certain bets. There are sections like online betting tools that cover betting odds, comparison, forums, live scores, betting strategies ratings of teams including performance predictions and corner ratings.
Some sites are so vivid that they provide a list of blacklisted bookmakers along with the usual bookmakers. For the ones who would like a current prospective on certain sports there is a current betting tips section from some veteran tipsters & live streaming sports news section as well. An important user friendly aspect is the sites allows one to cruise through every choice of a bet from poker to horse racing or the more wilder form, The Rugby League with the DRAGONS taking on the EELS.
It is believed that Betting exchanges are the future of betting. They are already the scourge of all bookmakers, simply because they run at 100% overround, effectively no profit, whereas bookmakers prices have an "in built" profit in their prices.
Thus it would not be wrong to conclude that online betting is the best way to try your hand at betting and maybe even outsmart the online bookies, which make Bookmaking a profitable business venture.

New Golf Tip - How Mind-Movies Will Improve Your Golf Quickly

by The Golf Bandit,

If you want to improve your golf game nothing will get you on the right track more quickly than well formulated Mind-Movies. The good news is that you can at last get a really first class guideline on how to develop effective Mind-Movies.

A great deal is written about visualization in sport. A lot of it seems to center around the idea that what the sports person should do is visualize the result they wish to attain.

I do NOT agree with this.

I agree that it is a good idea to have objectives and targets and to visualize those objectives, but that it NOT the most powerful way to use visualization in sport, or indeed in any other area of your life.

In any aspect of our lives objectives only serve as a destination for your efforts. So it helps to visualize your golf ball nestling near the hole. But what gets you to that destination is the effort that you make and the quality of that effort. It is the quality of your golf swing that gets your ball next to the hole.

The real power of visualization is in its ability to guide your effort. Good visualization provides a guide line or template for the body movements necessary to a good golf swing.

Once you know what you're doing you can create and produce a Mind-Movie of your golf swing in a matter of minutes. And you can make that swing as powerful, accurate and elegant as you want.

The other great beauty of visualization is that it gives you the ability to constantly hone and improve the Mind-Movie which is guiding your body and thus your swing. So you can get better and better as you rehearse your swing more and more in your mind.

And, because no-one else knows that you're working on your golf swing, you can practice in your mind anywhere you like and as often as you like. The new Golf Mind-Movies Power Pack recommends that you practice visualizing your golf swing as often as you can.

The trick is to learn how to write, direct and produce a good Mind-Movie which will guide your swing so that it becomes a powerful, reliable method of propelling your golf ball accurately to any target you choose.

Whether you are new to golf or an old hand The Golf Mind-Movies Power Pack will almost certainly improve your game in next to no time.

The fact that the beta trial version of The Golf Mind-Movies Power Pack sold out in just 19 hours bears strong testimony to the revolutionary effect that Mind-Movies are having on the games of many golfers.

American Football NFL

by Gloriarandle

American Football NFL Blog, stay up to date on the latest developments in American Football.
Here is the latest NFL news about teams, matches, super bowl; This Blog is really amazing with lots of information about football players, their snaps and current updates. American Football NFL Blog contains News, views and highlights from all of the Latin American football nations.

American Football Blog contains lots of information about Super Bowl, New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, Tennessee Titans, San Diego Chargers Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens, Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings, NFL Playoffs, Adrian Peterson, Anquan Boldin, Atlanta Falcons, Ben Roethlisberger, Brian Westbrook, Buffalo Bills, Carolina Panthers, Chicago Bears, Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Clinton Portis, Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos, Detroit Lions, Edgerrin James, Frank Gore, Green Bay Packers, Hines Ward, Houston Texan, Jacksonville Jaguars, Joseph Addai, Kansas City Chiefs, Kurt Warner, LaDainian Tomlinson, Larry Fitzgerald, New England Patriots, New Orleans Saints, New York Jets, Oakland Raiders, Peyton Manning, Pittsburgh Steelers, Rashard Mendenhall, Raymond James Stadium, San Francisco 49ers, Santonio Holmes, Seattle Seahawks, St. Louis Rams, Steven Jackson, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tom Brady, Tony Romo, Top NFL Players , Washington Redskins, Willie Parker, Basketball Slam Dunk and many more.

Here is some information which is being given in detail in the American Football NFL Blog. Malcolm Jenkins makes it four in a row in absences for the training camp; this is due to the fact that they are still on negotiations with his contract. One of the main goals of sports organizations all over the world for getting kids into sports is to keep them away from drugs. Sports are actually a way to. One of the most epic sports games is just around the corner, as the Arizona Cardinals will go up against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Matthew Stafford was picked first as expected but there were some surprises in the draft itself.

Roger Goodell, the NFL Commissioner is envisioning a Super Bowl game in mid February if his plan of expanding the schedule to seventeen or eighteen games is carried and approved by the team owners. The proposal would eliminate the two pre season games and instead add them to the regular season. To him the idea has merit and it is essentially “taking the quality and improving upon it, instead of playing two meaningless games you end up playing a more meaningful twenty game framework.” The problem then would be making Super Bowl schedule that can be in conflict with other high profile events such as the Daytona 500, the NBA All Star game and the Winter Olympics. But compared to these events, there is no bigger event in the United States than the NFL Super Bowl. Ultimately, he says that there “are a lot of positives and opportunities to it but there are also cautionary things like overexposure, safety and health issues of the players and the agreements with television and other media organizations.”

Attention! Are you a goalkeeper looking to improve your game?

by goalkeepertips

I have some VERY valuable information to share with you right now. You do not want to let this opportunity pass you by.
Mental Training for Goalkeepers

"You have to be very mentally strong to be a keeper at this level. We are there to be shot at and that's the part of things we have to accept. You just have to try and make sure mistakes don't happen."-Paul Robinson

Wouldn’t you love to be able to improve your game and your skills? Do you have what it takes to be one of the greatest goalkeepers ever? Wouldn’t you like to learn?

Did you know that your mental game is just as important (or more so) than your physical one?

Imagine this scenario…

The crowd is cheering, the pressure is mounting … You have spent years physically preparing for this moment. Your opponent is about to take the kick and the crowds’ shouting and jeering is getting intense. In a split second, you lose focus.

Heckling and taunts from the opponent’s camp has succeeded in getting into your mind. The kick is taken and you see the ball coast over your head and into the net. You, the last man standing between your team and victory have failed.

Not because you were not physically fit enough to rise to the challenge, but because your mental state of mind let you down. You were distracted. You were not mentally trained to rise to the challenge!

Don’t let this be you!

Wouldn’t you like to be prepared? Don’t you want to have your “mental game” in gear?

Mental training can teach you to:

1) Prepare for the game
2) Expect greatness
3) Avoid stress
4) Visualize
5) Relax and rest more
6) Avoid distractions
